UFC News: Lesnar vs. Carwin likely for…

The unification bout between Brock Lesnar and Shane Carwin seems to be scheduled for UFC 116. The event takes place July 3, during Independence Day weekend from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, NV.

Carwin on his next opponent: “It’s been a long time coming,” Carwin said. “I see it as destiny. Brock and I were both national (collegiate) champions at about the same time in wrestling, and we never got to meeting in wrestling. Now here we are 10 years later, and we finally get to meet. And it’s on a much bigger stage, the biggest stage in the world, and I’m excited for it.”

Dana White on the upcoming fight: “I didn’t want to have talk to these guys – especially this guy (Carwin),” White said. “This guy has been dogged more times in a half year than any fighter we’ve had. We had already made it an interim title fight, and we didn’t want to go back and say ‘never mind.’ It was already done. The wheels were in motion, so we kept it an interim title fight. Now these guys will fight.”

Quick Hit: Well I’m pretty sure everyone saw this coming. Lesnar was talking about fighting on that card and so it would only seem likely that with Shane taking zero damage in his fight against Frank Mir that they would schedule it for one of their (UFC) biggest PPV cards of the year. This fight is going to be great, but I’m sure it’s going to be over rather quickly. Love it or hate it, I just don’t think Carwin has the size or speed to contend with what Lesnar brings to the table. I guess we’ll all see come this July.
