Bellator News: Cole Konrad vs. Pat Bennett
Two time NCAA D-1 Heavyweight Wrestling Champion Cole Konrad has been signed by Bellator and will be making his debut this Thursday against Pat Bennett at Bellator 17. The organization today announced that his bout with Bennett will be a part of the televised card on Fox Sports Net.
Conrad won his NCAA titles in 2006 and 2007 at the University of Minnesota, and is one of the main training partners current UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar.
“Brock Lesnar’s dominance in the UFC has shown the impact that an elite, world-class heavyweight wrestler can have in MMA,” said Bellator founder and CEO Bjorn Rebney in today’s release. “Like the rest of the MMA world, we’re expecting big things from Cole and are excited to see him in his first nationally televised fight under the Bellator banner this Thursday in Boston on FOX Sports Net.”
This is how the card now shapes up:
MAIN CARD
- Champ Eddie Alvarez vs. Josh Neer (non-title fight)
- Pat Curran vs. Roger Huerta (lightweight tourney semifinal)
- Toby Imada vs. Carey Vanier (lightweight tourney semifinal)
- Pat Bennett vs. Cole Konrad
PRELIMINARY CARD
- Nate Kittredge vs. Justin Torrey
- John Clarke vs. Greg Rebello
- Dan Bonnell vs. Josh Laberge
- Nate Lamotte vs. Chuck O’Neil
Quick Hit: Konrad is a great addition to an already stacked card. Eddie Alvarez and Roger Huerta on the same card? I’d pay money for that, but it’s free on Fox Sports. Awesome. Don’t forget to watch. You don’t want to be the fool that could’ve seen greatness for free.
