Popovich a tough interview after Game 2

Having covered the Spurs for a few seasons, I can tell you first hand that Gregg Popovich has never been the most loquacious interview subject. If you give him the opportunity to answer yes or no, he will. And if he doesn’t like your questions, or, worse, thinks your question is dumb, he’ll let you know.

And you gotta love his in-game interviews with those sideline reporters. He makes them earn their money. A typical in-game interview goes like this. Reporter: “Coach, how do you come back and win this game?” Pop: “We gotta score more points than them.” Reporter: “What’s been the difference in this game so far?” Pop: “They’re playing better than us.” Another reporter once told me he’s waiting for a really bad question that forces Popovich to cock his head, give him the finger, and say, “F*ck you.” Everyone laughed. Because no one would be really surprised if it ever did happen.

But you have to watch this interview after the Suns won Game 2 to go up 2-0 in the series. Pop took offense to someone asking about his team’s energy, and then when asked if he can talk about what the Suns did different to Manu Ginobili, Pop simply said, “No” while shaking his head. There’s about two minutes of pure awkwardness. Check out the video below.
