Big Baby Davis leads Celtics to victory; series tied 2-2
Whoever said the Celtics were tired and out of gas obviously forgot to tell Glen “Big Baby” Davis last night. He put on the most memorable display of drool-fueled emotion in recent memory as he and the Celtics bench took control late in game 4 and tied the NBA finals back up.
It was a hard fought battle by both teams for most of the game, but in the fourth quarter, a Rasheed Wallace technical foul energized the Celtics’ crowd and players, and the Big Baby show began. Hustling up and down the floor, Davis caused a Laker turnover which resulted in his running down the court and scoring on a rebound, putting the Celtics up by 6. Big Baby erupted with emotion, spewing slobber, giving piggy back rides to Nate Robinson and nightmares to children everywhere. Missed it? Here you go….
Davis ended up with 18 points off the bench, with half of them coming in the fourth quarter. Paul Pierce added 19 points, and Ray Allen came back from his dismal game 3 performance, scoring 12 for the Celtics.
As I said after game 3, it takes a team effort to beat the Lakers in the NBA finals, and that’s exactly what Boston delivered this time. Six Celtics scored in double figures and the bench gave much-needed assistance when they were called upon. L.A.’s Kobe Bryant scored 33 points, but it wasn’t enough to secure a win.
This series is already looking like it could be one of the classics. Boston has one more home game before the series heads back to Los Angeles for the final two games. Catch game 5 Sunday night at 8pm eastern on ABC.
