Was Road America a success?

Road America is a new course, taking the spot of the Milwaukee Mile in the Nationwide Series. The Milwaukee Mile has had a lot of ownership problems as of late — people wanting too much money and it has been a very selfish nightmare. Nobody wants to deal with it, so it’s off the schedule.

Instead, we’ll be seeing this 4-mile long, 50 lap race course. This is a real endurance test. Plus, you need to make sure that you don’t overdrive into a corner, or go over the side bumps as we saw several drivers go off the track and end their time in the race as a track bar was needed. This was, and Wisconsin in general, has been good for Carl Edwards as he has won in Wisconsin for three consecutive years now.

In a race that many racers were concerned about in the early going, it turned out to be a good race. Edwards passed Jacques Villeneuve with nine laps to go and took over the race and ended up winning.

Another race, that featured some good racing was Sonoma… the winner of that race was Jimmie Johnson as he got his first victory at a road course in his history. He dominated that entire race.

Robby Gordon came in second, Ambrose – who was near the lead the entire race – finished in sixth.

There was controversy over Ambrose. His crew chief told him to conserve fuel so he’d turn his moto on and off throughout the course. He stalled, pulled over the side, turned the car back running and moved into seventh. He failed to maintain a reasonable speed and in seventh in stayed where he moved up to sixth and that’s where he finished.
