FEDOR LOSES!!!! WERDUM SUBMITS FEDOR!!!

In the biggest shocker in MMA history, Fabricio Werdum submits Fedor Emelianenko with an armbar. Fedor looked to finish early, but fell into multiple submission attempts by Werdum. One of them finally took hold. Fedor taps. And it’s all over. For Strikeforce. This can’t be good. The organization claimed the spotlight by signing the “undefeated” heavyweight away from the UFC. Now, he’s damaged goods. He’s easily still top 3 in the world, but his aura of invincibility is forever shattered.

Fabricio was a 6-1 underdog coming into this fight, but Werdum wasn’t fazed by Fedor’s impressive career or the line, and fought his fight. Greatest win of his career and he should enjoy the spotlight, because I feel it’ll be short-lived when he faces off against current Strikeforce Heavyweight Champion, Alistair Overeem, in his next bout.

Somewhere, Dana White is screaming, “I [expletive] told you guys! [expletive] [expletive] [expletive] Brock Lesnar!” Or something like that.

[UPDATE] Actually, this is what Dana White had to say via his Twitter: :D

I’m still shocked. Had to rewatch the fight. It sure looks like Fedor taps.

    Wow, just wow.

Why on earth did Fedor go to the ground with a 2-time BJJ World Champion?

  2. Bobby says:

it was an Arlovski style mistake from Fedor

had the upper hand, and tried to finish quickly, instead of continuing to fight smart

i think this confirms that he's moving past his prime, but he's still got a way to go and he's still top 3 p4p

  3. Louis says:

unbelievable. Werdum had a lot of luck tonight but victory is victory.

  4. R. K. Menn says:

Fedor was trying to finish it quickly and landed in a lot of submission attempts. One just caught. This is not good for Strikeforce.

Joao, I agree. He kept falling into submissions. Unlike Fedor.

Bobby, It was a stupid “flying knee” mistake. I don’t get it. And of all people to beat the unbeatable, Werdum? I would accept a Brock Lesnar defeat. Maybe even an Alistair Overeem defeat. But Werdum? Ouch.
