Rampage Jackson vs. Lyoto Machida coming in November
That’s right folks, MMAJunkie.com is reporting that sources close to the UFC are saying that former light heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson has verbally agreed to meet former light heavyweight champion Lyoto “The Dragon” Machida at UFC’s November 20th event, tentatively scheduled to be UFC 123.
Rampage himself even hinted at the bout, posting on his Twitter account, “Almost ready to sign the bout agreement,” Jackson stated on his Twitter account. “I would tell ya’ll who I’m gonna get down with, but I can’t spell his name. Hahaha.”
Bout agreement have yet to be signed, as of this post, but are expected to be shortly.
A location and venue for the event has yet to be scheduled, but UFC officials have several places in mind to showcase the light heavyweight bout.[pullquote]I would tell ya’ll who I’m gonna get down with, but I can’t spell his name. Hahaha.[/pullquote]
Both fighters are coming off losses and both look to become champion once more. Rampage is coming off a unanimous decision loss to current #1 contender Rashad Evans, and Machida recently lost his belt to Maurcio “Shogun” Rua this past May.
No doubt the winner will vault right back up the ladder into the title shot scene, either being the #1 contender or needing just one more win to get a chance to become champion once more. I expect a highly competitive fight and can’t wait to see it. Machida better not fly in there like he did against “Shogun” this last time or he’ll be in for another quick night. Rampage is arguably the most devastating puncher in all of MMA and always looks for the highlight reel knockout.
