NBA Pick One – Post 72 – January 19, 2011

Just as John said yesterday, we sincerely apologize for missing a couple days in a row. The weekends are hard for me, personally, since I am generally busier then than during the week. Also, the games start earlier which makes it harder to post in time.

Our Picks from Last Night –

Tim – Tyrus Thomas – 11 P1P

John – Boris Diaw – 16 P1P

Tim:

I was flat out fooled by Tyrus Thomas last night. I thought that since he is coming off a one-game suspension, he would be fresh. I also saw that he had a 17/13/2 game against the Bulls last time out. Thomas only gave me 11 P1P last night, my lowest since I missed my pick on December 19. The good thing is that a lot of the challengers had Thomas, too.

John:

Last night was a dud. Diaw, after recording a triple-double the night before, came back down to earth with 12 points, 2 rebounds, and 2 assists for a measly 16 P1P’s. If I would have gone with Dwyane Wade, I would have gotten 36 P1P’s even with LeBron coming back to the lineup.

NBA.com’s Expert Pick for Tonight – Al-Farouq Aminu – Clippers

“I’ve talked about different guys being inconsistent before, but my goodness Al-Farouq Aminu takes the cake. A quick rundown of the rookie’s game log reads like a scatterbrained list of random numbers scrawled out by a crazed mathematician. One night he’s over 40 PRAs, the next he’s got only 2 – and that’s WITH the rookie bonus. The moral of this story being, it’s going to be feast or famine when picking Aminu. But the chances are much greater of a feast when you choose him against the right opponent, and the T-wolves are one of those teams. I haven’t picked on them in a while, but they’re still out there, giving up points all over the place. Aminu and the Clips have already played them twice this year, and he’s had some of his feasting nights in the process, putting up 48 PRAs over 28 minutes the first time around, and 32 the second, in only 14 minutes of play. He’s shown he can do a lot in a little on a given night, with the help of the rookie bonus. Having put together a string of valleys over the past couple, Aminu should be due to have one of his peaks versus a team he has already shown the ability to have success against.”

Our Picks for Tonight:

Tim – Baron Davis – Clippers

John – Antawn Jamison – Cavaliers

Tim:

Baron Davis is playing better basketball, and so are the Clips.

“Kudos to Baron Davis for salvaging his career. Really fun to watch again. A top-5 most untradeable contract as recently as 6 weeks ago.” – Bill Simmons

The Sports Guy tweeted that on the 17th, and was being completely serious. Davis had just had a 14/2/12 game.

Baron has not scored lower than his 18.9 average P1P since December 22nd against the Rockets.

In the ten games since, Davis is averaging 25.5 P1P per game.

The game before that Rockets contest, he took on the Minnesota Timberwolves whom he is playing tonight. He had 25 P1P that night, too.

Davis is fresh off his 2nd double-double of the season.

John:

The Cavs have been awful this season, but Antawn Jamison has been a bright spot in Cleveland as of late. He’s gone over his seasonal average of 24 P1P’s a night in seven of his last eight games. The only night he didn’t was when the Cavaliers took the evening off against the Lakers. I like him tonight against the Suns and I’m hoping he can get over 30 P1P’s tonight.
