If you need further proof just how big of celebrities athletes are becoming, here it is:
Kobe Bryant will become the first athlete to get his own star in the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The ceremony, where Bryant will have his hand and footprints (size 14!) immortalized in cement outside of Grauman’s Chinese Theater, will take place on Feb. 19.
Well, isn’t that perfect timing. It coincides perfectly with the All-Star weekend events that will be taking place in Los Angeles this year. Of course, that would imply the whole process, which includes a $30,000 fee, is nothing but promotion for movie studios.
The only confusing part is which of the five categories he’ll fall into: Motion Pictures, Television, Radio, Recording, and Live Theatre/Performance. I guess Live Theatre/performance. Of course, this opens the door for athletes in every sport to be considered. If Bryant has a star, surely Michael Jordan deserves one, right?
Of course, I did manage to get it fixed, and I didn’t even get a comped buffet.
