According to a report from SportsBusinessDaily.com, the UFC’s third event on Versus next Thursday will be their first ever event in 3D, according to a report from SportsBusinessDaily.com. UFC on Versus 3 takes place from the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, KY and will be headlined by Diego Sanchez vs. Martin Kampmann on March 3. Comcast, Cox, Verizon, Massillon Cable, Blue Ridge and Armstrong have all signed on to air the 3D broadcast. This is awesome! Sure, it’s a novelty right now, but soon 3D channels will be everywhere. It’s good that the UFC is ahead of the curve. I wish I had a 3D TV to watch the event.
Paul Daley weighed in for his BAMMA 5 title fight with Yuya Shirai at two pounds over the 170 lb. limit. Daley was given two hours to cut the additional weight, but still came in 400 grams over the limit. As a result, what was supposed to be a title fight is now a three round bout, and Daley has forfeited a percentage of his purse. This is the fifth time out of the last eleven bouts Daley has surpassed the weight limit. Wow, Daley, really? You are a professional, allegedly, and you continue to miss weight? Move up or get your act together. His camp said the place for the weigh-ins had no sauna, so they had to travel a ways to find one, and that’s the reason. Please. There is no excuse for this.
In an interview with MMAJunkie.com, Cesar Gracie said that Nick Diaz has been told to be ready for Strikeforce’s April 9th event, but no opponent has been set. Busch league, Strikeforce. You are putting your champion in a bind he shouldn’t be in. Yeah, it’ll either be Paul Daley or Tyron Woodley, but those fighters are completely different. Not to mention the bind it puts Daley and Woodley in.
Ariel Helwani at MMFighting.com is reporting that Manny Gamburyan’s return to the UFC has been delayed due to a back injury suffered during practice, and has been pulled out of a bout with Raphael Assuncao at UFC 128 in March. Well that sucks. I was looking forward to that fight.
Former UFC fighters Houston Alexander and James Irvin will meet for a second time in a featured light heavyweight bout at Shark Fights 14 on March 11 at the Fair Park Coliseum in Lubbock, Texas. Hopefully it last longer than the eight seconds it took Irvin to Superman Punch knockout Alexander the first time.
