UFC 141: The Breakdown
UFC 141
Breakdown
The MAIN event on UFC 141 is one of the hardest matches to pick a winner in quite sometime.
Overeem
The good: Takes good damage in body, good takedowns, experience.
The bad: Doesn’t recover well under pressure, Slow starter, makes bad choices during fights.
Brock
The good: Excellent takedowns, Solid cardio, Main Event experience, Better quality of competition.
The bad: Iffy standup, tries to power out of situations instead of technique, can be pressured in standup, chin questions, long layoff.
Both men can be overwhelmed, both have questionable chins, both hit with power and both don’t have what is considered top quality round the clock camps.
I see the fight this way, Brock is going to come out hard charging, looking to bowl Overeem like he did Heath Herring, then drop those hammerfists on him till he quits. The longer the fight goes, the slippier Overeem gets, and Overeem can use his clinch game and knees to Brock’s belly. If Overeem can s0tuff a clinch or two a round, he can get in Brocks head and then get ahead on the scorecards, if that happens, Brock will get tired and reckless, and Overeem can and will knock him out.
I don’t think he will get that chance. Brock will outweigh Overeem by 20 pounds come fight night, and he’s gonna sit on Overeem and wear him out, then pound him out in round 2.
Brock Lesnar RD2 TKO
Explain to me how the Cowboy goes down. I just don’t see this going any way to Diaz, unless Cerrone has a soft spot in his chin somewhere.
Cowboy, 30-26 UD
John Fitch vs Johny Hendricks
Fitch is the best 170-pounder in the world not named GSP, period. I’m including Sheilds, Condit and Diaz on that list. I hope Fitch comes to this fight ticked off, submits Hendricks and gets his title shot on the interm basis. If I lived in Vegas, I’d put SERIOUS cash on a Fitch/Cerrone parlay. Hendricks isn’t a scrub, but Fitch is a class above, and I think he’s got a TON of motivation here.
Fitch RD3 sub
The remainder of the card seems to be a mis-mash of up and comers and people that should be in Strikeforce.
The Janitor should be another quality gatekeeper, but Alexander should survive long enough to find a gap to put his fist through.
Nam Phan should win easily, but he’s not ready to look for a title shot yet.
If Ross can stay upright, he should win over Assuncao, if not, he’s going to lose quickly.
I like Danny Castillo, but this is going to be a war he’s going to lose to Njokuani- but might get a Bonus from Dana.
DHK should get off the Pre-lims with a solid showing over Pierson.
No idea why they brought back Escudero, but it should give VOlkman another win up the ladder.
Matt Riddle wins, fairly quickly.
Finally, If Manvel can protect his chin, he can win over Diego- problem is, he can’t.
Enjoy UFC 141!
